Create a product bundle

Modified on Tue, 26 Sep, 2023 at 3:53 PM

A product bundle (sometimes referred to as a kit or set) consists of a number of products that are suggested to the customer to rent together, making their journey easier.

For example, in the camping industry, a bundle for 2 people could include 1 two-person tent, 1 double mattress, 2 sleeping bags, 1 stove, and cutlery for 2.

In the clothing industry, it could be suggestions for tops, bottoms, jackets, and accessories that go well together.

Some brands choose to make bundles exclusive, meaning that the products can only be rented within a bundle, and it's not possible to rent a bundle if one of the products is out of stock.

Additionally, it's possible to add associated products to the bundle, which are options the customer can choose in addition to their bundle. Associated products can be for purchase and/or for rent.

Create a bundle category in Sylius (mandatory when a bundle exists)

We start with the pack category instead of the pack directly, so that we can select it during the creation of the pack.

What is a pack category? It can be a collection of packs designed for a specific activity, targeting the same customer base, or suitable for the same season, for example.

1. In Sylius, go to Catalog > Pack Categories > click on Create.

2. Add a code (without spaces) representing the pack category.

3. Add a name and description to the pack category.

4. Finally, add media, which will only be used on the homepage if you represent the pack categories. See how to do it.

5. Click on Create."

Create a pack in Sylius

1. Have created all the products that make up the pack in advance.

2. In Sylius, go to Catalog > Packs > click on Create.

3. Add a code (without spaces) representing the product, or even mentioning rental. As with products, the code is used to build the product's URL, so it's a good opportunity to make it SEO-friendly.

4. Next, add the name of the pack and a description.

5. Add media: a pack has only one image that belongs to it. Generally, it represents all the products in the pack. Depending on the display mode selected in Prismic, this image will be visible or not on the pack page and the homepage.

6. Under Products, click 'Add,' then select a product and its proposed quantity in the pack.

7. Repeat the process for each product in the pack.

8. Add the pack category it belongs to.

9. In associations, you will find a dropdown list of products for each type of association created in Sylius > Association Types. This is how you can differentiate between complementary products for purchase and complementary products for rent, for example. Note that visually on the website, all the different association types will appear under the same title defined in Prismic (so it's not the name of the association type that is displayed).

10. Click on Create.
